机构简介:

The Institute of Applied &Computational Mathematics (IACM) is located in Heraklion, Crete, Greece and was founded in 1985. Initially, it was part of the Research Center of Crete; in 1987 it became one of the founding institutes of FORTH, a major Greek research center. FORTH is overseen by the General Secretariat of Research &Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Education, Greece.

The objectives of the research personnel of IACM are:

To conduct research of high quality in selected areas of Applied and Computational Mathematics.

To participate in interdisciplinary research projects, mainly by developing and applying mathematical methods and tools for modelling and solving complex problems in the sciences and technology.

To develop tools and methodologies based on applied mathematics that can be used in the public and private sectors.

To provide training for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in Applied and Computational Mathematics and related areas.

For these purposes IACM maintains the necessary state-of-the art computing and experimental facilities. A large part of the Institute’ s research is funded by competitive national and EU grants. Through its research programs IACM has developed many collaborative projects and relations with other research groups in universities, research centers, organizations and private companies in Greece, Europe, the United States, and other countries. The successful research activity of IACM is documented by the numerous research contracts it has attracted, the quality and impact of research publications of its members, the success of the international scientific meetings and conferences they have organized, and the excellent results of the three evaluations of IACM that have been conducted by the General Secretariat of Research &Technology. The Director of IACM from 1985 to 2004 was Prof. John S. Papadakis. Since 2004 its Director is Prof. Vassilios A. Dougalis.
